The Banking Ombudsman is a person appointed by the Reserve Bank of India, who has quasi-judicial (tribunal board which has legal powers) authority. All commercial banks, regional rural banks, co-operative banks, and public sector and nationalised banks are covered under the Ombudsman scheme. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Ombudsman is online complaint and customer help support system introduced by RBI in 2017. Also, RBI has launched the Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions 2019 i.e. (UPI, NEFT, RTGS, Aadhaar Based, Scan QR, PayTM, Airtel Banks, PhonePe, SBI, LIC, and other Banks). The Banking Ombudsman is a senior official appointed by the Reserve Bank of India to redress customer complaints against deficiency in certain banking services. As on date, fifteen Banking Ombudsmen have been appointed with their offices located mostly in state capitals.
